Most Indian authors know their e-book is protected by copyright. What very few know is that an audiobook recording carries a second, entirely separate copyright, the sound recording copyright under Section 13(1)(b) of the Copyright Act, 1957, independent of the literary copyright in the text. This guide explains both rights, how to register them at copyright.gov.in, how to enforce them against platforms and infringers, and what every digital publishing agreement must say to protect the creator.
