.IN Registry In India
IN Registry is the organisation responsible for the .in TLD and the native language internationalised domain name TLDs for the country. It was appointed by the government of India, and operates under the authority National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI).
The IN Registry was established by NIXI, under Section 25 of the Indian Companies Act, 1956, with an aim to provide improved Internet services in the country. Various guidelines and policies were formulated by the registry which came into effect from January, 1 , 2005 concerning the registration and administration of .in domain names. The underlying purpose was to ensure that the domain name .IN is easier to use, and is accessible to all.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Maintaining .IN ccTLD
- Ensuring operation stability, reliability, and security of .IN
- Implementing the policies laid down by the Government of India and the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology.
- Accredit registrar for the purpose of domain name registration.
